Happy Monday… Oh wait, it’s TUESDAY!
With this being a short week we will be working hard to get a lot done! As the cooler weather arrives, please remind your child that they need to come dressed for the weather everyday! They also need to have a pair of indoor running shoes for gym. They will not be allowed to participate in gym if they don’t have proper footwear. Math - We will be starting a unit on fractions. Students will be exploring how to represent, compare and order fractions in a variety of ways. Reading - We are coming to the end of our class read aloud, Red Wolf. Students will be working on a collaborative project that will highlight their understanding of the main concepts of the book. More on this next week. Reading responses this week will focus on making connections with some of the characters in the independent books that they are reading. Writing - Students have already begun working on their final version of their biography. This is due Thursday. Please check in with your child to see how things are going. Science - We will be continuing with our Biodiversity Unit. This week we will be addressing the question “What impact do humans have on biodiversity?” We will be using Yellowstone National Park as a case study. Students will participate in a debate on this topic, taking into consideration different perspectives on the issue. Looking forward to a great week of learning! Happy Monday!
We have a busy week ahead of us as we finish up a writing task and move on to other projects. Anyone who ordered Herrles Boxes can pick up their order on Wednesday from 3-5:30 in room B3. Picture orders are due by October 8th. In our class this week... Math - We will be learning how to calculate the area of a parallelogram and triangle. There will be a quiz on this on Friday. Writing - We will be finishing up the research on our heroes. Students are working on filling in their graphic organizers with relevant information and details about their hero. Depending on how things go we hopefully will start working on our final drafts before the week is done. The final project will be due next Wednesday. Students will have some options as to how they want to display their information (essay, slideshow, website, poster, etc). Reading - We are finishing up our class read aloud, Red Wolf. Students have been working on making connections to some books that we have been reading as a class. Starting this week students will be starting their Reading Responses based on the independent novels they have chosen to read. This weeks response is “Which character in your book could you see yourself being friends with? Why?” Science - We are going to look at the importance of biodiversity in an ecosystem using Yellowstone park as a case study. Looking forward to another great week of learning! |
