It is hard to believe that there are only 2 weeks left. This school year has just flown by!
Here is what is happening this week. There are a few important events. Monday - J.W. Gerth Play Day and Celebration Picnic. Students will be outside for the first block of the day playing and having fun. During the first Nutrition Break the entire school will have a picnic outside. Parents are invited to join us for the picnic! Friday - Field Trip! We will be going bowling and then watching Cars 3. Students will be getting a slice of pizza and a drink provided during bowling and popcorn and a drink provided during the movie. Students can bring some water and snacks to supplement. In the classroom we will be finishing up a few projects. The Grade 5s will be researching a Human Body Organ system of their choice. The Grade 4s will be learning about a variety of habitats and the different food chains/webs that exist in them. In Math, we will be reviewing some of the big ideas that we have addressed this year through problem solving. Students will also be exploring probability by creating some games of chance. This week is sure to be a blast! Hope to see you on Monday!

Three weeks left, but the learning never stops!
In Language, students will continue reading a variety of short stories and then meeting with their literature circle to discuss the story. They are putting together our entire years reading program by making connections, making inferences, and just discovering the joy of reading! In Math, we will be reviewing some of the big ideas that we have covered this year through problem solving. In Science, the grade 5s will be researching the human body organ systems. The grade 4s will be exploring habitats and communities. Our "Expedition Unknown" projects are due this week! Students will be presenting to the class on Wednesday, and then sharing their work with the other grade 5 classes on Friday. Special Things to remember for this week: Tuesday - Track and Field day! The kids that are staying back at the school are asked to bring in a board game for some Board game fun! Friday - Scholastic Summer Book Orders are due! - Trip money due! 4 Weeks left! Time truly is flying now!
We have a jam packed week with a lot of special events happening. Wednesday - Jump Rope for Heart! Bring your running shoes, sunscreen, and water bottles. Thursday - Special guest, Scott Graham will be visiting our school to give two important talks (one to the primary students and one to the juniors) about bullying. Friday - Mr Tinnes (Principal of Groh P.S.) will be visiting with the students that will be moving to the new school. In Writing, we will be working on creating a writing portfolio. Students will be selecting a variety of pieces of writing that highlights all their growth and strengths as a writer. In Math, we will finishing up exploring volume and will reviewing some of the big ideas we have covered this year. In Social Studies, the grade 4s will be finishing up their research on their chosen ancient civilization. Some of this project may need to be completed at home. Please check with your son/daughter on the progress of their research. The assignment is posted in our google classroom. The grade 5s will be further discussing the consequences of contact between First Nations and the Europeans. They will be asked to research some of the key elements of the fur trade and New France. In Health, we will be learning about the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty. |
