There is a lot on the go in Room 24!
In Reading, students will begin to present their book talks. Check with your son/daughter about when they will be presenting. In Writing, we will be revising and editing our character descriptions. In Math, we will be continuing to explore real life math problems that involve a variety of operations and fractions. Students will also be starting to design their very own environmentally sustainable 3D city. This week, we will focus on planning. In Science, the grade 4 students will continue to look at the key differences between rock and minerals and the grade 5 students will continue to explore different sources of energy. They will require this knowledge when they begin to plan their environmentally sustainable city. Don't forget that Friday is Blue Jays Day! Wear your Blue Jays' gear or JWG clothing to show your school spirit. Friday is also popcorn day.

I hope that everyone enjoyed their March Break. Time to get back to work!
In Reading, we will be FINALLY starting our book talks. Each student will be selecting their favourite novel they have read this school year and will be creating an engaging "talk" about the book. The sole purpose is to encourage a classmate to pick up the book and read it when they are done. In Writing, we will be looking at how to write descriptive paragraphs focusing on using an attribute chart to help them create a paragraph that allows their reader to visualize their character. In Math, we will be focusing on the specific skills required to use a protractor to measure angles and more importantly, why is this an important skill. Students will be solving a variety of problems that require them to use their knowledge of lines, angles, and 2 dimensional figures. We will also be continuing to explore fractions in real world contexts. In Science, the Grade 5s will be looking at different forms of energy and how they are produced. The Grade 4s will be exploring the properties and differences of rocks and minerals. It is going to be a busy week in Room 24!!! This week we will be finishing up the odds and ends before the break.
In Math, we will be focusing on problem solving. The students will be solving a variety of problems that require them to determine whether they need to use multiplication, division, subtraction, addition, or a combination. In Writing, we will be publishing our "Personal Memoirs". They really are coming along. With each mini-lesson their work gets better and better! In Reading, we will be focusing on strategies that help readers better understand what they are reading. Focusing on asking questions and making predictions. |
