As this is a short week we will be working hard to get everything done!
In Math, everyone has completed their "Tiny House" and I will have the marks back to them shortly. We will continue to explore fractions on a daily basis. We will be having a short "show what you know" next Wednesday. A review sheet will be going home on Thursday for you to review with your child. In addition to exploring fractions we will be spending this week reviewing multi-digit multiplication strategies. In Science, we will continue to explore the properties of matter (grade 5) and light and sound (grade 4). Next week students will be introduced to their culminating task. Check back next week for details. In Language, we will continue to work on our personal narratives. Working on adding a lot of detail and description so that the reader is able to visualize what is being written. Can't wait to see where our learning takes us this week! Don't forget to bring a loonie for the bake sale tomorrow! All the proceeds will be split between The Grand River Hospital Foundation and Mary's Place YWCA Emergency Shelter.
Way to go room 24! What great teamwork. This week we will be finishing our Social Studies presentations. With Social Studies all wrapped up, we will be moving into Science. Students will be conducting some experiments on the properties of light and sound (grade 4) and matter (grade 5).
In Reading, we will start using our "Passport to Character" as a way to track our reading. In Writing, we will be starting our "Personal Memoir". Students will be selecting an important event in their life and will learn to "explode the moment" using descriptive writing. In Math, we are going to be spending this week looking at fractions. We will be focusing on comparing and ordering fractions, exploring the relationships between the numerator and denominator. Looks like it is going to be another busy week in room 24! The kids in room 24 have been very busy since coming back to school from winter break.
In social studies the grade 5s have been engaged in an inquiry project that has had them busy researching an environmental or social issue of their choice. Their goal is to create a "Call to Action" that will educate their audience about the issue and how the government/citizens are currently working to resolve the issue. As well as inspire the audience to get involved! Presentations are on Friday!! The grade 4s have been working on a different inquiry project. They have been busy researching about the political and physical regions of Canada. Filling their "backpack" with lots of fundamental knowledge about our country. They are now critically looking at the way that communities balance the needs of people and the environment by investigating and analysing the M.E.R.E project. Their final goal is to create a proposal plan for the City of Kitchener, as to whether or not consider a similar project. Students are taking on various perspective when creating their proposal. They present to "City Council" this Friday. In math, everyone is designing their very own Tiny Home! They need to make sure they include everything a home needs and make sure that is it is small and compact enough to be considered a "Tiny Home". There has been a lot of real world measurement going on! Can't wait to see where the next month takes us! |
