Happy New Year!
Welcome back everyone! I hope that everyone had a great break. I enjoyed the extra time with my family, but am ready to get back to learning. As we begin learning in 2020 we will spend some time setting some growth mindset goals and revisiting our classroom expectations. This week will be a reminder of what is expected in our classroom in terms of behaviour, learning, and student responsibilities. As the snowy weather continues, students are reminded that they need to have snow pants, snow boots and mittens/gloves in order to be in the field at nutrition break. Math - Students will be learning to identify geometric patterns through investigations and problems. Reading - We will be continuing our class read aloud, “The Bridge Home”. We will be using our class read aloud to learn about the different roles in a literacy circle. Starting with “summarizer”, “questioner”, and “travel tracer”. Language - We will be starting a unit on media and advertising. Students will be learning to analyze a variety adds, thinking critically about the techniques that the company is using. Social Studies- Students will be continuing the unit on Heritage and Identity: communities in Canada, Past and Present. We will continue to address the big questions by asking the questions, “What does it mean to be Canadian?” and “What are some symbols of Canada?”. This week we will be analyzing some contemporary symbols of Canada. Important Dates: Jan. 14 - ESQ Workshop (at school) Looking forward to another great week of learning!
