The weeks just seem to fly by! I can't believe this is week 3! We have a lot planned for the week, lots of great learning opportunities. Make sure to check in with your child to see what is going on.
Book Fair! - Don't forget to support our school by purchases some books from the Book Fair. Monday and Tuesday from 8:50 - 4:00. Math - In Math we will be finishing our exploration of Rates and Ratios. We will have a culminating task for this learning chunk that will begin on Thursday. Students will need to be comfortable calculating unit rate. Reading- We will continue to explore themes in literature. Students are reminded that they need to have a novel that they are reading during independent reading time. Writing - We will be doing some mini lessons to get our writer's workshop up and running. Ask your child about the curse of robot sentences. Media - Students will be filming their "How To" videos. Science - The grade 5s will be looking at Energy use in our every day lives and why it is important to conserve energy. The grade 6s will look at current electricity and will explore how parallel and series circuits work. It's going to be another great week in A3!

What an awesome first week back! I feel like we hit the ground running and are off the a great start for Term 2.
Math We will continue to look at unit rate and ratios, exploring a variety of problems and strategies for understanding and solving them. Writing/Media Students will be working on their "Create your own How To.." project. The project is posted to our google classroom. We will also be starting a new paragraph of the week. Ask your child about this weeks topic! Reading We will continue to explore the use of theme in literature as a way to convey meaning and evoke emotion. Science Grade 5 - We will be creating some simple machines that demonstrate the concept of potential vs kinetic energy as well as the transfer of energy. Grade 6 - We will be exploring the difference between static and current electricity. I can already tell that there is another great week of learning ahead of us! |
